This is the ceiling of one of my favorite places. The building used to be a library. Can you imagine anything more wondrous than sitting at a gigantic table in a reference room, and looking up to see such a stunning thing?
It’s now an art gallery … but still one of my favorite places, Steensland Gallery at St. Olaf. This weekend I went (twice) to an exhibit called “Beauty/Beast.” Most of the objects in the sculpture installation were white. They were everyday objects, found in your pocket, your junk drawer, your neighborhood drugstore or Target. David Woolf, the artist, helped you to see beauty in a couple of milk jugs, styrofoam containers, or men’s jockey underwear.
I hope you can see beauty, too.
Just when I thought I had the junk food cleared from my pantry, along comes Girl Scout cookie season. Five? I ordered five boxes of cookies this year? (Ahh, Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs). A few tidbits about everyone’s favorite cookie distributors:
- Police ticket overzealous cookie pushers
- The Girl Scouts were founded 71 years ago yesterday.
- Thin Mints are the biggest selling Girl Scout cookie
- Cook with your cookies!
- The Girl Scouts will soon be training their leaders online.
- The Girl Scouts are now combatting eating disorders among girls
