So we got to be the Minnesota Blog of the Day over at Twin Cities Babelogue on April 7. Cool. We really should post more often, which would then make it worth the trip for those people who traveled to this little corner of the web to read about us (and our quite boring lives, of late).
I just returned from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore., where I was serving as one of a dozen judges of higher education web sites entered in the CASE Circle of Excellence awards contest. Overall, I was a bit disappointed. College and university web sites seem to be about three to four years behind the rest of the world. So, while the sites that won gold, silver and bronze awards (and even some of those that didn’t win) were all excellent, none of them really “wowed” me. I’ll post a link when the judges’ report is complete in the next few weeks.
Portland is beautiful. Even though it’s about the size of Minneapolis, its downtown is extrememly walkable (unlike Minneapolis). I stayed at the downtown Hilton (rumor has it that Dennis Kucinich was staying there, too; in fact, while he campaigned and Ani DiFranco performed at a local venue, I was having drinks next door). Yesterday morning I found myself at Powells City of Books, wandering the three floors of books that span a large city block. I purchased a copy of Found Magazine, and I’ll definitely be looking for the next copy to arrive in late 2004. Heartwarming, sad, fun, desperate stuff.
