I am posting this from the Pittsburgh International Airport, which offers free wireless internet access throughout the terminal. “Pittsburgh International Airport is among only a few airports equipped for wireless communications in the country and one of the only ones that does not charge a fee.” Excellent.

Any good integrated Web-based bookmark manager and RSS readers out there?
A few months ago I got a new laptop, which means that I now use three computers on a regular basis: the laptop, which I use on the couch for surfing, reading e-mail, etc.; the desktop in the downstairs office, which I use primarily for freelance work and for playing on this Web site; and my work computer, which I use, well, at work. The problem? Keeping the three of them in sync, especially my bookmarks and RSS feeds. For my bookmarks, I’ve been using the Firefox Bookmarks Synchronizer extension, which works great, as long I remember to upload/download bookmarks from computer to computer on a regular basis. For my RSS feeds, I’ve been using Mozilla’s Thunderbird, which is also handy because I can check my e-mail the same time I’m checking my feeds. But once again, I always have to remember to export/import the feeds from computer to computer. And another issue with both applications is that they’re not Web-based, so if I’m not on one of these three computers, I don’t have access to anything.
The solution? Pluck, which allows you to sign up for an account to store your bookmarks and feeds, and then use a Firefox or IE extension or the Web-based version of the application to access them and keep them synched. But I tried it out this afternoon and was sorely disappointed. Some of the feeds wouldn’t appear; those that did appear took forever because I had to wait for the ads to load in as well. After playing around with the app for two hours too long, I decided I wanted to delete my account; this mess was not worth the hassle. But no such luck, since there’s no option to do so within the My Account settings. Shame on you, Pluck.
So it looks like Pluck’s product is good in theory, but could definitely use some work. Anyone out there know of a good Web-based integrated bookmark manager and RSS reader? Other suggestions for keeping these things in synch? Comments open.
