ABOUT US AND HOW WE MET
(as recalled by Lynsey)
Roger and I met on May 22, 2000 at a "Dinner of the
Month" club event at Chino Latino in Minneapolis. The
Dinner of the Month Club originated from the Single Volunteers
of the Twin Cities, an organization to which Roger and I both
belonged. Since neither one of us had any luck meeting anyone
at volunteer events, these social opportunities seemed a better
option. ;)
We didn't talk much at dinner in fact, Roger told
me later that he thought I was a bit stuck up but afterwards
we headed over to the Minnesota Moose on the top floor of
Calhoun Square. Since my prospects at that point looked pretty
slim (with the exception of Rog), I took the open seat next
to him at the end of the bar. "Tell me a scar story,"
I said, using an icebreaker I learned in college (ahh, the
good old days of residence life) and we started to hit it
off. Eventually, the conversation turned to the Internet.
"I have a web site," I said to Roger. "It's
my name."
"Oh really? How do you spell your name? I'll go look
at it tomorrow"
Visions of Internet stalkers flashed through my mind."Well,
it's lynsey.org,"
I said, "but I don't spell lynsey like you think I would."
At that point, Roger determined I was playing hard-to-get.
(I don't think I ev en knew how to play hard-to-get.)
Fortunately, the next day Roger found my site and emailed
me. We met up again that night at another SVTC event, followed
by a marathon night of getting to know one another at Grandma's
in Bloomington. Our first date was just a week later!
That was a year ago ... and this Fourth of July we returned
to my parents' cabin in North Dakota for a long weekend. The
evening of Monday, July 2, Roger suggested we go for a walk
and "watch the sunset." He drug me into a hot field,
filled with bugs, at which point I got extremely sick to my
stomach and insisted we get out of the field (little did I
know I was foiling his plans). We wandered down to the lake
where it was cooler and where I felt much better, and sat
on the dock for a while. The conversation eventually turned
to marriage (funny how that happened) and the next thing I
heard was, "Well, will you marry me?"
Despte the incredulous look on my face and asking Roger if
this was a joke, I hastily accepted! "I waited 28 years
to find you, and I'm not going to wait another year to marry
you," Roger stated shortly after. So, we set our wedding
date for just four months later November 3 of this
year.
So. That's our story. Gag (or laugh) if you will, but we
kinda like telling it. And, if you want to read more about
us, what we do, and all that biographical kind of stuff, head
on over to the "About"
section of our site!
